Did anyone mention you on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is continuing on rolling out a range of new features starting with mentions. Think of them like idly dropping someone or some organization into your interactions, a little like adding in a Twitter handle on Twitter.

This new feature hails towards making LinkedIn more interactive and engaging with your connections and the others that you interact with on your home page. This is a new feature but builds on the existing status message functionality (see this old metallic loafers Hogan 665j6
) enabling you to flag someone’s name or organisation within the status message, comments or interaction on status messages that you share with your own network. A great way to build those relationships!

As soon as you start typing an individual or organisations name in your status it will pop up a pick list for you to choose from, see below

As soon as you mention someone in your status or that of others they will receive a notification (just like you get for interactions, messages and invites) so they are aware of it instantly, thus enabling them to continue the “conversation” within LinkedIn or outside of it over a telephone or coffee (my preference!).

Instructions for Mentions in LinkedIn Status Updates

1. From your status update box (top of your LinkedIn Homepage next to your photograph) just start typing the name of a connection or company you wish to mention in your status updateamongyour normal status message.

2. As soon as you start typing a name the drop-down box will appear with a list of connections / companies. Simply select the connection or company you wish to include in your comment or status update and that’s it!

3. After finishing your comment or status update, the mentioned company or person will receive a notification alerting them that they have been mentioned on LinkedIn. It’s as easy as that!

4. Note: You can even mention 2nd connections that already engaged in the comments section of posts on your LinkedIn homepage. This makes it nice and easy to start conversations with people who youaren’tconnected to using this functionality.

Despite the divorce of LinkedIn by Twitter back in July 2012 mentions will “translate” your mentions of individuals names on using the feature will automatically translate to their Twitter names within Twitter, very neat!

LinkedIn said in its release announcement of the mentions feature that there is more to come, rumours are rife and include a range of new potential functionality – be interesting to see what they release next.

My bet is on a positioning / GIS tie in, as it is weak in this area, what would you like to see in LinkedIn as the new feature?

LinkedIn seems to moving very speedily in the right direction here. It’s not a feature, but I’d like to see changes in the mobile app to enable more advanced functionality via mobiles.

Nathan’s Famous hot dogs. The world’s top competitive eaters. Ten minutes to glory. It all goes down on the Fourth of July at the corner of Surf and Stillwell.

Rising eaters hungry for the taste of victory challenge our defending champions, but cannot de-throne them.

Another year, another Mustard Belt for Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo! The veteran champions were able to withstand the tough competition and come out victorious in the 2018 Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Coming into the big event, rising star Carmen Cincotti looked to over throw the 10-time champion and take home his first title. But Joey was determined to add another win to his impressive competitive eating résumé. Not only did he win his eleventh title, but he broke his own world record, eating 74 hot dogs in ten minutes. This astonishing performance only further solidified his place in Nathan’s Famous history.

On the women’s side, Miki remained dominant. Despite the high heat, she was able to fend off the hungry competition of Michelle Lesco and Juliet Lee. With this victory, Miki brought home her fifth consecutive title.

Thanks to all of our competitors and everyone who celebrated the Fourth of July with us. We’ll see you soon on the 2019 Road to Coney!

Protecting the interests of rail and road users

We hold Network Rail to account for delivery of its enhancement projects (large scale projects delivering new infrastructure) to its customers and funders. We do this by monitoring and publicly reporting on the delivery of projects and improvements in its capability.

We protect the interests of Network Rail’s customers and stakeholders by making sure they have the opportunity to comment on the impact of changes to Network Rail’s plans.

We provide guidance on the Investment Framework to informthird parties thinking of investing in the railway approvetemplate contracts and provide advice where required.

This document sets out the role we propose to have in enhancements in CP6, in relation to that of DfT, Transport Scotland and Network Rail. We welcome comments by 31 August 2018 on the approach set out, which we will finalise in advance of CP6. Please send your comments to .

Network Rail’s license requires them to publish a delivery plan that sets out its obligations for enhancement projects. This allows train operators to plan their businesses and funders to plan their finances with a reasonable degree of assurance.

For control period 5 (CP5 from 2014-2019), any projects to enhance the rail network are listed in Network Rail’s Enhancement Delivery Plan .

If Network Rail need to make changes to the Enhancements Delivery Plan, for example if a delivery milestone has to be delayed, Network Rail must agree it with their funders and submit a formal Change Control request. ORR reviews these Change Controls to make sure that all the affected stakeholders (such as train companies and local councils) have been consulted and that Network Rail are addressing their concerns.

As part of this process, ORR provides Network Rail with a quarterly letter, outlining our decisions on each of the Change Controls:

We report on Network Rail’s performance in delivering enhancement projects every 6 months. We also publish a report that lists the project milestones for each 6 month period showing which milestones were achieved, missed or revised.

Regulated milestone status summaries (attachments to ORR Monitor)

In addition, we sometimes use the independent reporter to complete a detailed review of specific projects or delivery issues. Recent reviews have included Network Rail’s implementation of the Enhancements Improvement Plan, delivery of Stirling-Dunblane-Alloa project and Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme’s Target Cost. The reviews by independent reporters are available.
